Hello.

This is a slightly complex problem, so I'll start with the summary:

suggestion: redefine instrumentEmax and instrumentEmin to account for the absolute potential of the probe (Vp) at each sweep step. such that Emin = 0eV, Emax = 3 eV would mean 10 to 13 eV when q*Vp = 10

Long explanation:

Let's say a probe sweeps from -40 V biased to node 0 to +40 V. and we happen to have very cold electrons or ions, e.g. electronTemperature = 0.1eV, or ionTemperature =0.01eV or whatever.

It makes sense from a programmatical viewpoint to ask the user to specify the energy ranges the Langmuir probe should focus on, but the way it's implemented is not good.

knowing I have 0.1eV electrons would suggest that I should only be interested in sampling from 0 to a couple of eV, e.g. instrumentEmax = 3 eV. But when the probe is at +10V, the sampled electrons will all have mean energies of 10.1 eV at the probe surface , so I should've sampled 10eV to 13eV, which contains almost all of the electron population (or ions). And this again changes when the probe is +40V, etc.

A poor man's solution is to ask for then ask for 0 to 43 eV, but the majority of the sweep computation would be spent looking for electrons or ions where there are none, and you need ridiculously high resolution instrumentEintervalNb to resolve what is going on. I don't know how SPIS handles instrumentEintervalNb= 10'000. But it doesn't sound efficient, when only a few intervals are of interest.

Also, if node 0 is floating and not at 0V, you need to (in advance!) compensate for this offset in the instrumentEmax...

For species born at the probe surface or the S/C, I don't know how you would implement this, since they are born at different potentials. Maybe keep Emin = 0, and let Emax increase (but not decrease) with q*Vp. In any case, it's mostly a problem for cold populations.
